The Walker Art Center is a contemporary art institution, situated in the Lowry Hill neighborhood of Minneapolis. It is considered to be one of the most-visited modern art museums in the US, with about 700,000 visitors per year, and has been a public art center for more than seven decades. The building we see today was designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes and got open to the public in 1971, while a major expansion was completed in 2005 by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. The Walker has a permanent collection with over 13,000 modern and contemporary art pieces – books, paintings, drawings, photography, prints, sculpture, costumes and more.
